Next week (Mon 6 to Sat 11 October 2008) is our annual, week-long intensive training course. Shihan Dan who, fresh from being accepted as Master Chen's "bai shi" (closed door student) has been researching the essence of the internal arts of taijiquan (t'ai chi), baguazhang (pa kua) and xingyiquan (hsing i). During the morning segement he will be introducing the Academy's students to ways of applying their karate in an "internal" fashion - ie. following the principles of the internal arts.
The course will include training in the pinnacle of the Wu-Wei Dao syllabus, Chen Pan-Ling taijiquan (first half hour), followed by combat-oriented combinations utilising karate basics applied with "internal" biomechanics. For more information on these biomechanics, have a look at Shihan Dan's articles "Understanding the internal arts" and "Hitting harder: physics made easy". In addition there 3 of the morning lessons will feature a yoga component to ease any tired muscles and provide a great stretch.
The evening sessions will focus on grappling (tuide), kata and the jo. The latter is hot on the heels of recent study and research conducted by Shihan Dan and compliments the "internal" study during the morning sessions.
This is a course not to be missed and students and friends are encouraged to take advantage of this once per year opportunity!
