Gashuku group returns and James Sumarac holds a special lesson

The gashuku 2009 group are back from the Stirling Ranges, fit and healthy (despite an unscheduled 22 hour hike!). Well done everyone! A special congratulations to Trevor Aungthan who was awarded his Nidan 2nd level and Scott Ponton who had his shodan second level confirmed.

Last night we also had the pleasure of having a special lesson from Kyoshi James Sumarac and one of his 5th dans Richard Kay. I'm sure everyone will agree that the class was very insightful and enjoyable. We look forward to a long association with our friends from Victoria!

See you all on Thursday!

Alex Kostic seminar

On 26 April 2009 I attended Alex Kostic's Perth seminar.

A truly memorable experience, held by a remarkable warrior/philosopher. Alex Kostic is, of course, one of the most sought-after instructors of the Russian art of systema. His course included elements of the systema punching (focussed punches creating hydrostatic shock to the nervous system), disrupting body structure so as to off-balance, groundwork and breathing.

For most participants it was a bruising but amazing experience and I highly recommend attending his seminar when he next visits Perth.

Dan on SportFM - 19 April 2009

Dan appeared on SportFM again on Sunday 19 April 2009 - you can get the podcast here. The discussion centred on the visit of Alex Kostic who teaches Russian art of Systema.

Dan will also be picking up James Sumarac and his wife Shou Mei from the airport tonight for their visit to Perth. James will be holding a special lesson at the Bayswater Martial Arts and Yoga Centre on Monday 27 April 2009.

Reports from the Stirlings are that the gashuku is going well!
